果境外旅游，“吃”一定是一档重要节目。而天书一般的西餐菜单则让许多人觉得困扰，或是草草地点了不如意的食物，或是错过了本该享受到的美食，亦或是点餐时囧态百出。
即使你英文很好，整不明白西餐菜单也很正常，很多西餐厅的英文菜单上还会保留着法语或者意大利语的词汇。但无论什么语言，几个基本的跟最常见菜式有关的词汇总得知道，不然端上来的东西不能吃事小，吃坏了可事大。
Steak Tartar：鞑靼生牛肉。不要看到Steak就兴奋，这可是切碎的生牛肉或马肉拌上生蛋黄和腌刺山柑，看上去特别像一碗生饺子肉馅。不喜欢生肉的人最好别冒险。
Foie Gras：鹅肝/鸭肝。这是法语，为了保留原意，即使英美的餐厅也通常不会把鹅肝写Goose Liver，而是执着地印刷法语原文。
牛排的不同部位有不同的叫法，当侍应问你How would you like your steak cooked？(你的牛排要几分熟？)你的回答应该是：rare（一分熟）、medium rare (三分熟)、medium (五分熟)、medium done（七分熟）、well done（全熟）。千万不要冒着傻气说：30%或者half。
至于Pasta（意大利面）种类非常繁多，数不胜数，根据形状和口味大致可分为三种：长面、短面和鸡蛋面。
长面以Spaghetti为代表。短面包括管状面（Rigatoni）、斜管尖面（Penne）、螺丝面（Fusilli）、蝴蝶面（Farfalle）等。
鸡蛋面是小麦粉加鸡蛋揉制而成的面条，更富弹性和口感，有宽面（Fettuccine）、千层面（Lasagne）等多种。实在不知道是什么，让侍应帮你拿一个生的来一看便知。
